Fly Fishing in New Zealand

New Zealand combines trophy trout fishing with stunning scenery and unbelievably clear waters. Stalking large trout in these breathtaking surroundings is an experience not be forgotten. With an almost end- less number of rivers, streams and lakes, there is a lifetime of fishing to be had on New Zealand’s North and South Islands. Many of our clients have returned time and time again, seeking out the many different quality trout fishing experiences this country has to offer.

Having spent 20 north American winters in New Zealand, starting back in 1987 and averaging 100 days of fishing each season, we know the country and the fishing better than most and can offer our clients the best advice on where and when to travel. There are many options in planning your itinerary depending on your length of stay, budget, and type of experience desired. We listen to you and help plan a trip around your needs and requests.

New Zealand offers northern hemisphere anglers a fantastic winter getaway. The South Island’s fishing season runs from October through April, with the North Island’s season extending into May. Fishing is truly world class, with most trout averaging 4 to 6 pounds. Depending on the fishery, trophies in the 7 to 11 pound class can be caught. Occasionally even larger trout are landed. Great fishing can be reached just off the road or by 4WD vehicle. Helicopter trips to back country wilderness rivers are a memorable experience. We have flown with many of the helicopter operators New Zealand that cater to fly fishermen.
